• 300-Meter Cliffs: Hunters scale down sheer rock faces on handmade 80-meter bamboo ladders anchored only to trees at the top. 
• No Safety Gear: They descend completely barefoot and bare-handed. No carabiners, no safety harnesses, and no backup ropes. 
• Giant Bees: They aren't just fighting gravity; they are facing Apis laboriosa, the world's largest honey bee (measuring up to 3 cm long). Hunters use smoking bundles of leaves to try to pacify up to 100,000 angry bees per hive. 
• Mid-Air Balancing Act: While suspended hundreds of feet in the air and getting stung over 100 times, a hunter must balance a collection basket with one foot while carefully cutting the massive honeycombs away with long bamboo poles.

What Exactly Makes the Honey "Mad"?

These flowers contain natural neurotoxins called grayanotoxins. As the bees process the nectar, the grayanotoxins pass directly into the honey, giving it its unique, mildly psychoactive properties.
